Join us for a lap of our spectacular Southern Alps. We head down the drier, eastern side of the island before riding up through the stunning West Coast rainforest, finishing in the alpine town of Hanmer Springs with its leg-soothing geothermal hot pools.
This event will be run under the auspices of les Randonneurs Mondiaux.
If entries are low, this may be run as a relatively unsupported event. We would provide course information, web tracking, four nights accommodation (Twizel at 316ks, Lake Paringa at 645ks, Kumara at 952ks and the finish in Hanmer 1227ks) and a lift back to Christchurch the following day. Entry fee is likely to be NZ$300.
If there are sufficient numbers we will have a vehicle on the course carrying a bag. The entry fee is likely to be NZ$450. A decision will be made just before entries close on 20 Feb.
Be prepared for:
There are a couple of short sections of gravel but these are comfortably rideable on a road bike.
NZ weather can change rapidly and we have been known to have snowfalls at any time of the year.
You may need clothing suitable for temperatures from zero to 30+ degrees Centigrade.
A GPS tracking device will be mandatory for this ride as much of the route is not within the range of cell phone signals. A hire device will be included in the entry fee.
Here is the RidewithGPS file of the draft route.
