
Opua, in the magical, mystical, mysterious, Far North of New Zealand. Ride the old rail trail from Opua through Okaihau, once the furthest North Railway station, around Lake Omapere, and on to the Mangunu Mission Station, before returning to Opua. The course is 180kms of gravel with 20kms of seal road.
Total distance is 201kms with 1,638 vertical metres.
Start time is 7am, at the Opua General Store.

Important Points
The turnoff to go around Lake Omapere is at Imms Road. If you miss this, you miss the lake Road Loop.
The Lake Omapere loop is best done on 30mm plus tyres. I have attempted it on 28mm tyres, and the gravel is just too loose, deep and soft to ride on.
