Description: Wellington's Big Coast event ran many moons ago and has morphed into a 150 ish km bikepacking route in the New Zealand Cycle Network.

We will knock it off in one day of gravel goodness.

Most of the route is off road on cycle paths, unsealed double track, some single track and a few hundred meters of hike-a-bike. None of it is particularly technical although care is required through the Cross creek to Orongarono sections where the track suffers coastal erosion and there are some parts of the track hugs the cliff with a steep drop to the ocean below.

Stronger riders will take about 7 to 8 hrs to complete this. Once you leave the Hutt Cycle trail there is no food or safe water for the next 80km so be prepared and stock up at the diary before you head towards Maymorn. As this is unsupported, plan to be out there for 10 hrs. and stock your food and water accordingly.

You will need lights for the Remutaka Rail-trail tunnels, and depending on your pace, the latter part of the ride.
