The home of long distance cycling in New Zealand
This event is cancelled. The route between Opua and Kawakawa has the main bridge under repair, putting the riders over the Lemons Hill road, with no real alternative.
Will try again in the 2022 - 2023 season.
Gravel 177kms; Sealed 24kms
A return to the wonderful Far North. The course starts outside the Opua wharf.
The course follows the old railway lines from Opua all the way to Okaihau, the most Northerly point of the Main Trunk Railway.
Heading on the old railroad trail all the way to Imms Road beside Lake Omapere, the course heads anti-clockwise around the lake to Ohaewai, and Okaihau. From there the course heads out to the West Coast, past the Horeke Tavern and on to the Mangungu Mission Station. This is the 113km mark. From this point it is a straight return back to Opua.
