Ride Information

Full route Course: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31858732

Day 1:

A hilly day of riding. 380kms, 5,425m of climbing. It does have several real steep bits of hill. There is a short gravel patch at 144km.

Day 2 :

The second section is a lot more gentle, with only two hills to worry about. Once past them, it is all plain sailing. The trip from the Auckland Museum down south follows Great South Road to Papakura. There is a 3km flat gravel patch a 533km.

Day 3:

The last leg is a flat ride for the first 260kms, and then a few hills for 100kms, before a 70km run to finish.

The current plan is to start the ride on a Friday evening, 6pm, which would allow all the traffic to get away first. The first 25kms is on bike paths.

The legs aren't based on an expected day's worth of riding, but are based around the first reasonable stop for sleep and food. It will be a self supporting ride, with minimum support services.

Most of the route on Day 2 and 3 are used by cyclists, and / or are pretty good for traffic levels.

For the first day, Wellsford has a 24 hour service station, with a McDonalds as well.
After that, there should be something open for most of the day / night. Helensville shops open from 7am onwards.

The leg from Ngatea to Mercer 130km, could be tricky depending on the time of night. Kaiaua Takeaway closes at 8.30pm. Clevedon takeaways close at 9pm.

Weather

Auckland weather can be known to have hot sunshine and pouring rain in the one day. Be prepared for wet weather, and sun burn.
